Inside Idol Show - Wildcard Song Choices

Submitted by djwright on Fri, 2005-09-02 10:24
  • Chloe Zuel - Will be singing Come On Over
  • This chick is cute and hot… Vocally this is a big song to pull off, the breathing could be an issue, so many words in so little time. She’s still sounding great though and might win enough fans to make it through, but she’s competing against Roxane here, she has to be good to beat Roxy’s sympathy votes…

  • Daniel Spillane - Will be singing Gimme Some Lovin (Although Daniel had previously chosen to sing Bed of Roses and decided to choose another song after Lindsay also chose the same song)
  • I’m not sold on this one, Dan needs to ham this up and have fun for it to work, and it’s not really showing us anything that he hasn’t shown us before. I’d have preferred him taking on the same song as Lindsay, go for broke I say and show the world who is better, that’s the only way to win this competition.

Dan says that he loves this song, and so do I, just that I’m not sure about how it’ll come out on the night.

  • Emily Williams - Will be singing To Zion
  • This is one of my favourite songs of all time, Lauren Hill sings this on her unplugged cd and she sings the balls out of it. If Emily is to pull this off she needs to do this with only a couple of acoustic guitars to impress me. This could inspire Mark to cry, its an emotional song and she’s trying to show that she has heart to the judges and the public as this was one of her criticisms last week.

Vocally she is very very loud, Erina says that Emily gave her goosebumps during the workshop, and that she could feel Erina’s heart.

  • Irene Bosmans - Will be singing Greatest Love of All
  • We’ve been calling Irene this year’s Ricki, the issue with this song is that it’s a ballad and it’s a Whitney Housten song, ok, that’s two issues. I can’t comment on her singing tonight because her voice was giving way during the practice, hopefully she’ll get through it before the night.

  • James Kannis - Will be singing Drift Away
  • James has chosen a decent song this week, it’s a good song and it’s a tried and true song in the Idol series, both American and Australian Idols have sung this and got through. There’ll be a key change in this track too, vocally James is pretty strong and might prove to be a wildcard male…

  • Joshua Williams - Will be singing Lonely No More
  • Dude, Josh is singing a ex-Matchbox 20 lead singer’s song… Strange? How about if I tell you that he’s decided to add an RnB twist and add a rap section to the track during the performance? This might win a few chick votes, but seriously it screams two words to me… “Try

the judges might just pick foolishly...like they always do...the reason: take risks??

All I can say is - thank goodness the judges get two picks this week.

I wish they were choosing all 3 - after the "Laura" debacle 2 weeks ago.  Anyway the judges two picks will ensure at the very least Roxane and probably James will get through.  Here are my thoughts on this week's show and my predictions for who will get through.

I'll firstly say Roxane will get through - an obvious choice I reckon.  She sang brilliantly in her semi-final, and was robbed by not making her way into the top 12 from the final.  I'm not going to comment on song choices, just moreso a brief word on each of the wildcard contestants.

I'd suggest James will get a spot in the top 12 - though he's certainly not one of my favourites, and I don't know why they say the girls would love him with teeth like that.

Josh Williams would be my third choice, because the top 12 need more blokes and I'm certain at least 2 will get through from this weekend.  Josh may not be the greatest vocally - but would be a hit with the girls, and the other guys available are pretty ordinary, let's face it.

If Josh doesn't make get through, then I'd Suggest Emily will get through in his place to fill this years "emotional mother" spot in the top 12.

How Michael Williamson is back in the show I'll never know, he has no control over his voice whatsoever.  I have him in an Idol sweep at my work and I still don't want to see him get through.

Lindsay is a joke and takes himself far too seriously.

Dan has attitude - not in a good way.

Chloe is way overrated and only made it back because of her "thing" with Josh.

Lauren is just not that good and is too small.

Irene has no spark at all.  And I certainly wouldn't be saying she is this year's Ricki-Lee at this stage.

roxane:  voice is too squeeky for me

james:  he should grow his hair long and do a cat stevens tribute

josh:  this is gonna be funny.  (if the judges thrash his performance, he's even more of a dead cert)

emily:  i'd like her more if i didnt have to look at her

michael:  the male laura

lindsay:  should form an original (not a cover) band. doesn't suit this competition.

dan:   thankfully his choice of song will rule him out this week, even if he aces it.

chloe:  see Luke's comment above.

lauren:  i was hoping that this year's idol winner would be the anti-casey. lauren is as close to that description as anyone else.  if her strong voice and song-choice mesh properly, she's touch-down potential.   she'd look far better on a billboard than guy or casey ever did.

irene:  a bundle of energy.  could be the best of the night, ... or the worst.

the 3 i want:  lauren, irene, roxane

the 3 we'll get:  james, michael, josh

edlovesbabyv Sat, 2005-09-03 14:07

roxane:  voice a little squeaky i agree but can hit more solid high notes than any other contestant in the competition

james:  he should have gone thru the round b4 if not for the pimping the judges gave to dan, lee and natalie...strongest male contestant in the competition

josh:  charm 10 vocals 4...i wouldnt buy his album

emily:  anyone who can pull off a mariah is someone to reckon with...thing is she sang mariah better than natalie zahra

michael:  would be better with more training

lindsay:  male copycat of this season...his version "time after time" was actually a matchbox twenty cover of the song...if i remember correctly...now his facial expressions annoy me

dan:   a repeat of the audition...enough to get him thru?

chloe:  too young for the competition

lauren:  another copycat...has a great voice but is ms plagiarism

irene:  one of the most energetic singers...very fun..."greatest love of all" is a good chance to showcase her vocals

the 3 i want:  james, roxane, emily

better on a billboard eh?

I'd certainly *cough* mount her on my wall...

Kyle confirmed on his Oz Radio show that it will be 2 Judges choice and one public.

I think it will be James and Roxanne through. Dan, Josh, Emily and Chloe vyling for the last spot.

Guilt Trip Sat, 2005-09-03 10:55

i'm not sure that we will see roxane get in.

she didn't make top 3 with a much weaker group, so why should things be different this time?

edlovesbabyv Fri, 2005-09-02 17:04

Erm...except for one thing...I thought the judges get to choose 2.

djwright Fri, 2005-09-02 18:47

I'm not sure,

I thought the process was the judges choose one and the public choose 2...

I cant remember to be honest...

edlovesbabyv Fri, 2005-09-02 16:47

I agree totally! You were spot on with everything!
