***VOTING LINES NOW OPEN***
Bring out the shears and the sheep, the beer and the meat, the bbq and the sweet smell of mosquito repellant and release a thousand Australian flies because tonight the Idols get to slip on some sexy clothes, slop on some makeup and slap on an Akubra hat as they perform their favourite Aussie made songs.
No, there won’t be any crocodiles let loose on stage tonight (although that’d be one way to add some spice to Laura’s vocal performance) nor will there be any billy’s on the open fire, there won’t be any live cross-overs to the cricket and I’d be surprised if any kangaroos and wombats were let free to roam across the stage, but there will be a few hundred teenagers and crazed fans screaming for their favourite Idol finalist.
One thing that you can be sure of is that the finalists are not taking this lightly, for some this will be the end of their journey but for others they will be allowed to come back next week, and the week after that, and the week after that until their fans throw them into the fiery pits of Idol obscurity. So grab me a eski of beer, a snag on some bread and a steak bloody and raw because tonight we’ll be entertained by the First Australian Idol Final – “Australian Made.

Ooh I love James, Lee, Roxy and Chris. Lol this year is turning out to be waaay better than the last. XD
i love honey chicken ...
Anne. Good but bland.
Dan liked it but not over much.
I liked James the most so far dj! Lovely tone and intensity.
Natalie was so kareoke.
Chris meh. Kate good but meh.
i hadn't heard kate's song before. you think she looked 40? she looked great to me :-)
how old is she anyway?
What was the ridiculous tonguebath for Emily?
Milly was ok. I can see she is good but that was not that fantastic.
Ahh dj I miss reading your commentaries :D
;)
I like Tarni but that was not good.
Laura started horribly but hit a few good notes.
Dan S was ok. Not great but ok.
Roxane was meh to me upbeat perfrmance did not match the song at all.
my 2 cents :-)
tarni: voice sounds a bit artificial to me, as though she's trying to
sound like axel rose (or someone else. i can't quite pick it). also,
i prefer how she had her hair before she became a "rock chick" 4/10
laura: wasn't bad at all. i'd be surprised if she was booted after that performance. was there a toilet-roll commercial which had a similar song to this one? ("you're my world, you're everything.."?) or maybe it was an ad for tea. 5/10
dan spillane: he's as good as shannon noll 4/10
squeak: this is as good as she gets. i dont like her at all. i think her smile hypnotizes people 4/10
emily: the original of this song isnt any good. she did it justice. (i wish she really were hit by a train.) 2/10
lyn scully: i stand by my earlier comments about her. her performances don't justify the early hype. she might be the earliest of the favourites to leave the show 4/10
lee: makes avril look like darby crash. he looked far too happy singing those particular lyrics. i think he's great at a very particular style of music. he should sing some buzzcocks on '70s night. 4/10
cc babcock: easily the best so far. i wish we could hear a whole set, instead of only 2 minutes worth. 8/10
dan englund: great voice. terrible posture 7/10
male squeak: flat, boring. very disappointing. is his voice always like that? it's a bit on the whiny, weak side of things. 3/10
natalie: she's a big fan of herself isnt she? 4/10
james: song ended abruptly. had its moments. i want this guy to stay. 6/10
anne: everyone seems to love her. i dont. 4/10
wiggle is at 0% on the poll at the moment. i knew he'd crash and burn, but i had no idea it would be in the first week. perhaps he'll be leaving tomorrow.
heh, you are way too cynical...
he'll still be there at the end of the week :)
stranger things have happened
harsh yet deaf...
James to stay?
WHY!!!???
i like the guy.
my favs for tonight: kate (by far), dan e, james and (yep) laura.
most disappointing: lee, wiggle.
dude...
you need to have your brain fixed...
Laura and James? hahahahaha
i dont think there was anything wrong with laura's performance. it was a nice surprise after her last effort.
she definitely stepped up. most of the others stepped down a notch. (i still only gave laura a 5, so it's not like i think she's great.)
she could have sung the entire song while burping and it would have been a surprise after her last effort...
still, shes in my bottom 3 for the night...
haha, you're harsh...
interested in doing a live commentary one day?
i'm harsh but fair.
i have no idea how u can do a live commentary. the ad breaks are about 30 seconds long tonight..
haha cc babcock! No i wanna watch the nanny!
Keep it coming im loving the recaps! And oh no Laura! I so wish i could watch :(
"to check out Natalie’s jeans and Anne’s moves again…"
kyle's comments were spot on. the muffin-top look is never flattering. her shape didn't suit that outfit. but the worst .... was roxy's outfit. it looked like maternity wear.
my predictions after tonights show:
safe: kate, james, dan, anne, laura.
not safe: all the rest. i want emily to leave. it will probably be tarni and emily. as long as kate doesn't leave tomorrow, i don't really care :-)
"a lot
of conversation here about who we liked the most" kate!
"who should die a
painful death" emily!
"and perhaps who needs to get a good spanking…" kate! :-)
Thoughts on tonight's performances? For what it's worth, here's mine:
Anne - My favourite before tonight, and my favourite without a doubt now. Loved it, even though I didn't know the song all that well. Should be safe. 8.5/10
Emily - Yeah, pretty darn good. I've always liked that song, and she did it well. Not as great as what I was expecting, but very good.
Dan - I loved that he didn't change the song up too much (take notice Chris!). 8/10
Daniel - Another song I've always liked and was excited to hear Daniel sing it. For the most part, he did really well - just needed to give it 10% more in the chrous. 7.5/10
Kate - A fellow Bendigo native - did well, nice voice. Sounded a bit strange at times (the arrangement that is), but got praise from the judges. 7/10
Roxane - Expected it to be good, and it was. But is she as good as what everyone thought? Time will tell. 7/10
Natalie - I expected better, to be honest - think she was too focused on hitting that one big note. Will improve, but solid performance. 7/10
James - I like this guy's voice, but he's got to give moer of himself. Seems as if he's holding something back every time. Another that should improve. 6.5/10
Chris - A touch disapointing for mine, I wasn't expecting him to change the song up so much. Great start, but got too weird after half way through. 6.5/10
Lee- Oh boy, bad song choice if you ask me. Has to choose more carefully (see his top 30 semi-final where he excelled), and choose a song to suit his voice - probably needs it to be up-beat, too. 6/10
Milly - Disapointed me, also. Too stationary, looked uncomfortable throughout the performance and just plain awkward. Just ok. 6/10
Laura - Better than I had anticipated, actually hit a few notes, but would surprise me if she wasn't going home tomorrow night. 5.5/10
Tarni - Ahhh... the "rock chick"... sorry, didn't like it at all. Sounds as if she is using someone else's voice when singing - doesn't sound natural. Either that or the song choice was just wrong. 5.5/10
Best to worst:
1. Anne (grade: big fat smiley with shining pearly white teeth) - excellent, excellent, excellent, did her moves, was fun, enjoyable, showed personality, a thousand times better than Natalie's "Come on everyone" and just standing still in the middle.
2. Emily (grade: big smiley with teeth) - excellent, great choice of song, much better than the original, wasnt screaming, had great pitch, i hope she gets through to the next round so that we all get to see her pulling out the mariahs, whitneys, celines, arethas and christinas
3. Roxane (grade: big smiley) - great, another fun performance, love the song, i disagree that it was a bad song choice, i think it was great for her, anything that she can pull off, it's great, i'd like to see her through to the next round and can't wait for her next performance because i know she will keep on delivering
4. Tarni (grade: smiley) - up and rocking rock chick, had the rock thing going on, not bad for the first performer of the night
5,6 and 7 (tied). Kate, Daniel, Dan (grade: small smiley) - okay, weren't really up and rocking like they should, there were elements in their performances that were good but there were some that weren't (Kate: messed up at the end; Daniel: the "stomp" effect; Dan: never looks into the camera, stares away, bad performance posture, safe and uninspiring)
8 and 9 (tied). Laura, Milly (grade: emotionless) - was very bland, safe, boring (but i must say that Laura did improve a lot from her horrendous rendition of "Don't Let Go" and Milly was overpowered by the backing track)
10 and 11 (tied). James and Natalie (grade: umm...w.t.f?) - Let's start with James, he's my favourite in the competition and I hate to say that the performance was bad but it was really. It was rather pitchy at the beginning and bits here and there throughout. Natalie...w.t.f?...comes on stage and tries to get the crowd going with "Come on everybody" and walks to the centre and just stands there throughout the song. Vocal performance wasn't on par with fellow divas Anne, Roxane and Emily. Sucks up to audience by telling them that they are fabulous blah blah...if you keep that up you'll get the Chanel treatment from Marcia...total trying to be Mikalah Gordon from american idol and i hope she does by being the second one out of the finalists. Totally immature and pretentious, unless she pulls something really great off, I won't change my mind about her.
10. Lee (grade: more w.t.f?) -nerves got the better of him at the very beginning, very safe and patchy performance throughout. not a likely candidate in the bottom three tomorrow because of his legion of fans.
11. Chris Luder (grade: flat face W.T.F?????) - What the f***? I hope he goes tomorrow.
Lee
His gay fag punk look and mannerisms are starting to annoy me. Definitely limited vocally and gave a limp wristed version of a pub anthem. If it was up to me he'd be gone.
Chris
I don't know what to think about this guy - he's weird. Looks like he's permanently stoned, and sang like it at first. Then went into a bizarre Mark Seymour on helium falsetto section. I want him to stay just for the weird factor.
Natalie
I didn't even hear what she sang because I couldn't get my eyes off her hideous double bumper hips! Must be using Paulini's wardrobe assistant.
See more at THE AUSTRALIAN IDOL BLOG.
Bottom 2: Tarni and Laura
Top few: Dan, Emily, Anne, Kate
Daniel S was good, will probably stay.
Strange: Natalie, great singing bizarre presentation, standing stock still throughout!! Milly I love her but thought the song choice was naff, Lee probably bad song choice though I still like him.
Wiggle: didn't impress me.
Roxy: good singing, song didn't suit, still sounds like a chipmunk
James: OK. Expect he will stay.
If tonight's bottom 3 (or will it be 4, as 2 are leaving?) is based purely on last night's performances, I'd put Laura & James there, then any one of Tarni, Milly, Lee & Roxane. However, from watching over the last 2 seasons we know many performers already have strong fan bases, so I think Lee will definitely stay. Hope Chris, Kate & Dan S get thru' (3 of my early favourites); Emily & Anne wow'd me last night & trust they get enough votes.
Question - what proportion of voters do you think vote for their favourite (& probably 5+ times) regardless of performance (compared to those who vote maybe once or twice a week, based purely on that night's performance)?
Cheers, BBG
if James go..i'll neva watch the show again.it'll b so plain without him!!!
everyone liked emily. you're all insane.
she'll be gone with 3 weeks, max! she'll possibly go tonight!
dont worry. he'll be safe
